DiEt

  • A meerkat mob usually consists of up to 20 individuals, although super groups of around 50 animals do exist.

  • Only the alpha pair mate, and usually offspring not from this pair are killed.

  • Pups are allowed to leave the burrow at around 2-4 weeks.

  • Primarily insectivores but will eat small mammals, venomous snakes and some vegetation.

Arid, open country. Short grasses and sparse woody growth. Absent from true desert and forested areas.

Carnivorous, mainly feeding on insects. Will also eat vegetation.
