How do I get a membership?
Memberships can be purchased in person at the main gate at the zoo, or on our website by clicking here.
If I come into the zoo today, can I take out a membership when I arrive?
You can indeed! Just let the staff at the gate know you would like to purchase membership(s). You will be able to enter the zoo with your membership cards on the day of purchase.
What date does a membership start from?
The memberships will be valid from the date of purchase unless you have specifically asked for a future date.
Can I purchase a membership as a gift?
Yes, a membership can be purchased on behalf of someone else. We will require the member’s full name, date of birth and a full address including postcode.
This can be processed over the telephone by calling 01732 823996, in person at the main zoo entrance or online. When purchasing the membership online you must specify that the membership is a gift.
How long does the membership pack take to be delivered?
Welcome packs are sent by 2nd class Royal Mail signed for delivery but you can start using your membership from the moment you purchase it by providing your post code details at the zoo entrance. If you purchase membership at the zoo entrance on the day of your visit, you can take your welcome pack away with you.
I am disabled, do I get a discount on membership if I need a carer?
Members who are disabled who require a carer can have an un-named carer added to their membership card for free. This will mean that any adult accompanying the member will be allowed access to the HCC free of charge as the member’s carer.
We will need to see either a letter from a GP confirming a carer is required, a letter confirming receipt of DLA/PIP or your blue badge issued for vehicles which depicts the disabled person’s identification. If purchasing online, you will only need to purchase for the member, and the carer will be added to the membership once confirmation has been seen on the first visit.
At what age does my child need a membership?
Children 2 and under are free but we do need to issue them with a ‘Little Explorer’ card so they can enter the zoo, so please also provide their details when purchasing.
My child has reached the age of three and I am part way through my membership, what should I do?
Your child’s ‘Little Explorer’ card is only valid until they reach the age of two so you will need to purchase them a membership or buy a day entry ticket.
I have purchased a membership online, what do I do next?
If you have purchased your membership via our website, you will receive an email confirming this and asking you to print out a confirmation letter to bring to the zoo on your next visit. Please present this letter at the zoo entrance to have your picture taken for your membership card.
If I take out a single adult membership, can another adult be added as a joint member at a later date?
Yes, single memberships can be upgraded to joint adult memberships by paying the remaining cost. The new member will take on the original member’s expiry date so this is something you must consider before doing so.
Do I have to have my photograph on my membership card?
Yes, all members will have a photograph on their membership card. This is so that we can make sure that all memberships are being used correctly.
What should I do if I lose my card?
Don’t worry, it’s only £2 for a replacement card and this can be replaced by asking at the zoo entrance. All we need is your name and postcode. The photograph on your card will prevent your it from being used by anyone else.
Can friends and family members use my card to enter the zoo?
Unfortunately not. Memberships are sold on an individual basis and display your name and photograph. They are non-transferable and and cannot be used by other individuals. Please see our full terms and conditions by clicking here.
Can I join as a new member by direct debit?
We currently don't offer memberships via direct debit, however this is something we are looking in to for the future.
When will I know that my membership is due to expire?
3-4 weeks before your membership is due to expire we will email you with a renewal notice.
