Hello little one...

Hello little one! ...

A little over a week ago, we had a new rusty spotted cat kitten born. We do very well with this species here at the centre and usually we don't have to step in - and we leave mum to it!

If you followed us earlier in the year, you'll know that we also had a kitten born in April, which is still living with mum. Because our female cat's efforts are still focused on the older kitten, she was showing no interest in this little one, other than cleaning it straight after birth.

We monitored the situation and taking factors in to account, including the potential last feed, the threat of an older sibling, and the very real problem of dehydration on one of the hottest days of the year, we decided to intervene and now Becca, one of our keepers and our director Adam, are sharing rearing duties.

The little boy is gaining weight each day and going from strength to strength. The next milestone will be his eyes opening in a couple of days. He is receiving feeds every two hours currently, day and night (yes, we take him home of an evening - our job really is 24 hours)!

We'll keep you posted on his progress!
