FACILITIES &
ACCESS.

The HCC is considered reasonably wheelchair friendly.

We are a natural site, and as such, some of our pathways are formed of natural material which will naturally change depending on weather and seasons with a number of small inclines and declines. The majority of our pathways are comprised of eco gravel grids, decking and concrete.

Ramp access

The HCC is not a step free site however our buildings are easily entered, and are done so frequently by wheelchairs and pushchairs. We do have ramps available. If this is something that you would like to make use of, please let a member of staff know.

Accessible toilets

We have an accessible toilet for use. This can be found with the main toilet block and is marked on our maps.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are not permitted inside the HCC. If you regularly rely on assistance dog, please contact us well in advance (Preferably around 3 weeks) of your visit so we can make arrangements.

Free entry for carers

We allow one carer free per full paying adult/child. The disabled person must provide a blue badge or a PIP/DLA/AA letter (issued by the DWP benefit office), supported by photo ID. Without this, a carer will not be permitted free of charge and we do not accept any other form of entitlement. This is a strict policy as people have in the past, very sadly abused this offer.

Employees/Carers that are employed by a company that provide days out to / take guests with disabilities are not permitted to free entry, and we urge you to contact us before your visit.

Sensory Bags

We have designed our sensory bags to provide ways of creating relaxation with certain aspects of visiting for children with ASD and ADHD.

Our bags include ear defenders, fidget toys and a zoo map along with a personal list of animal talks.

Bags can be asked for at the entrance to the zoo for a deposit of £15, fully refundable on return of in tact bags. Bags will need to be signed out and in.

Mobility Scooters

If you use a mobility scooter you may find you have reduced amounts of manoeuvrability around some areas of the centre.

If you would like any more information, please email enquiries@hemsleyconservationcentre.com
