FACILITIES &
ACCESS.
The HCC is considered reasonably wheelchair friendly.
As a natural site, we are committed to preserving the integrity of the landscape to support local ecosystems and biodiversity. Maintaining natural pathways helps protect habitats for native specie, including ground nesting insects and small mammals, and supports healthy soil systems that are vital for plant life.
Our paths are primarily composed of eco gravel grid, decking and gravel. The eco grids are designed to follow the natural contours of the land, which means some inclines and declines are to be expected - particularly in areas with tree roots or undulating terrain.
While most visitors using wheelchairs or pushchairs experience no difficulty, it's worth noting that many wheelchairs are not optimised for uneven surfaces due to small front wheels. In such cases, it may be easier to pull rather than push the chair to improve stability and control. Examples of this can be seen in our accessibility guide below.
Navigating the pathways at the HCC is like moving through your local woods—winding trails surrounded by trees, birdsong, and natural greenery. While the surfaces vary and follow the natural contours of the land, they offer an immersive experience that keeps you closely connected to the landscape.
We appreciate your understanding as we balance accessibility with conservation to create a space that welcomes everyone whilst protecting the natural environment.
Mobility Scooters
If you use a mobility scooter, please be aware that maneuverability may be limited in certain areas of the centre due to the natural terrain and pathway layout.
