Meet Ginny!

We have welcomed a female red ruffed lemur from Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park to be a companion for our resident boy, Barney!

The introduction will be gradual, allowing both lemurs time to become familiar with each other and their new social situation. Our keepers will be closely monitoring their behaviour throughout the process.

Red ruffed lemurs are classified as Critically Endangered in the wild, and are on the IUCN's top 25 most endangered primates list. They are found only in a relatively small area of north-eastern Madagascar, where habitat loss and hunting are among the threats to their survival.

We’ll share an update once Barney and his new companion have had some time to settle in.
