Cuscus joey, a first for the HCC.

We've been keeping a secret!

An early Christmas present comes in the form of the centre's first ground cuscus joey!

In early November our keepers noticed that our female cuscus was beginning to look a little larger around her pouch area. After small glimpses over the last few weeks we were delighted to capture this footage.

Ground cuscus are marsupials from the island of Papua New Guinea and Aru islands. This is the first offspring born here at the centre, and for first time parents Mawi and Sepik.

Our ground cuscus can be found in our nocturnal house.
